My first “business trip” has been to Kabarole district/Ft. Portal town in S.W. Uganda to participate in an exchange visit with our project partners and the Kabarole Resource/Research Network. The ride was totally miserable! We rented a private matutu, which are generally used for public transport, to drive us south.

En route we passed through an IDP camp housing Ugandans displaced by the conflict rampant in northern Uganda:
Lunch break, road side. Jimmy, a technical advisor to one of our project partners, NACWOLA, having a quick feast of muchomo, roasted meat….
The only enjoyable aspect of the 10 hour drive, with 18 people in a 14 passenger van, where I sat directly over the engine, was the drive through the national park. Olive baboons! Everywhere!
